For families seeking a fun-packed Austrian holiday, we have endless activities that’ll keep both little & big kids alike more than entertained (we guarantee all the exercise will mean they sleep in too!).
Here at the resort, we do everything we can to make our chalets family-friendly. If you fancy a day at home, there are all sorts of games, books, DVDs and consoles to keep your little ones busy, and if you want to get out for some ‘you time’ we offer childcare/babysitting at a very reasonable rate of €15 per hour. As a guest of ours, you and your family automatically get access to Lungau’s archery workshops and competitions, including transfers and equipment hire!
Away from the Chalets, you will NOT be bored!! Get stuck into canyoning, fishing, white water rafting, golf, climbing, hiking and horse riding during your stay. Or head to the nearby outdoor swimming pool or ‘Outdoorparc Lungau’ for some zorbing and a high ropes course. Our local cycling paths are also excellent for young ones finding their way on two wheels!
How to book
We can easily craft a specific itinerary for you based on what you’d like to do and the ages & ability of your kids. The best starting point is to read the following before making a list of activities that catch your eye. Then it’s simply a case of emailing or calling us with this information in addition to dates and length of stay, so we can put together an outline itinerary with costs. It’s as easy as that!
What we offer families during an Austrian Alpine Holiday
The chalets themselves offer a variety of accommodation and room sizes, including several large attic rooms, which most of our younger visitors seem to love (not to mention some of our bigger kids!). Our attic spaces come with either four or six beds, although there’s space for more if they fancy a pyjama party! Each chalet has a minimum of three WCs and two shower/bathrooms, plus there are additional facilities in our central buildings.
For childcare we have a reciprocal agreement with the nearby Hapimag – one of St Michael’s best hotels. They have fantastic childcare facilities and employ some wonderful, multi-lingual people, who will instantly make you feel at ease. They will happily take care of your little skiers (+3 years) for the whole day, from 9am until 7pm, for as little as €15 – any time of the year.
Kids’ Ski School / Créche
Our St Michael ski school has a crèche for smaller children, which is based in the next town of Mauterndorf. They really are excellent and take great care of the little ones while you’re out improving your technique and having fun. If your little cherubs are 3 years or older, you may want to try them in proper ski school themselves (we have seen 2 year-olds learning to ski but it’s rare). It’s often surprising how capable such tiny children are, especially once they’re away from their parents, and the ski school here is excellent. With instructors from all over the world, including the UK (one of the chief instructors is married to an Englishman), there are seldom any problems with language.
“The ease, convenience, friendliness and great teaching at the St Michael ski school are a major bonus for our families. The fact that your kids are in very capable hands, learning to ski while you do skiing/snow shoeing/the other activities on offer is fantastic. Also the fact that it’s only a few minutes walk to the gondola from the chalets is great if you’ve got kids.”
Anna and family – SMC guests
As more and more people catch on to the incredibly pleasant weather we have here, Austria is becoming increasingly popular for summer holidays. Between June and September Lungau offers all kinds of family activities, from rafting and cycling to nature walks, fishing, golf, horse riding and quad biking. We often say that this region is like one big adventure playground and we’re never short of ideas if you need some options. There’s also a new climbing wall, which is open to the public throughout the summer. You can hire equipment or take part in one of the regular climbing workshops. We can sign you up from the resort, so it’s easy as pie to get involved!
When there’s something special happening, our gym converts into a party area, meeting room, banquet hall or cinema. For example, during the last World Cup, we showed all the games on the big screen. If you want to put on a movie, play some games or throw a party for someone’s birthday, just let us know in advance and we’ll make the necessary arrangements.
Austria is a great country for family holidays – whether it’s a family ski holiday or a summer activity holiday with the kids – and we reckon there’s no better resort to head for than St Michael.
