In the summer you won’t find many places with more options available than Austria’s Southern Alps. The whole region is one natural adventure park – with canyoning, fishing and white water rafting for those who want to get their feet wet, and golf, climbing, hiking, biking and horse riding for those who don’t.
And best of all? We’ll make all the arrangements on your behalf…for free. Included in every stay at St Martin Chalets is our bespoke concierge service, which is basically a posh way of saying that we will organise activities on your behalf – leading many of them ourselves.
When you arrive in your chalet you will find a weekly printed itinerary, featuring suggestions and tips about what there is to do and when. Some of these may involve a small fee, but we’ll list this clearly so you can simply pick and choose.

Austrian Golf Courses
Austria is a country that’s largely neglected by the golfing community, and yet many of the country’s courses are truly breathtaking, challenging and – especially compared with the busy courses of Portugal and Northern France – relatively deserted. We have 5 championship golf courses within 40 minutes’ drive of St Martin Chalets – each offering a unique layout and some amazing scenery… And one is only 10 minutes’ walk away! Read more >>
Diving in Austria’s Clear Inland Waters
If you can stand a bit of cold water, there are some fascinating dive sites in and around Austria’s Lungau region – including, perhaps most notably, the acclaimed Green Lake or Grüner See. Snow melt and glacier water is naturally very cold, but it is also extremely clear – the holy grail for SCUBA divers all over the planet. Read more about our dive trips >>
Health and Fitness Holidays in Austria
The World Competitiveness Yearbook recently found that Austria not only had one of the best qualities of life in Europe, but also had the lowest level of environmental pollution in the whole of Europe. That, combined with the high altitude of the Lungau region (above 1000m), means that a prolonged stay here can be extremely beneficial for improving health and fitness. There is a growing movement among doctors in this part of Europe, who literally prescribe their patients with a week in the mountains as a form of preventive medicine. Why not do the same? Other Outdoor Activities
Jodi is a qualified UNESCO Biosphere Ranger and is never happier than when up in the mountains with guests of St martin Chalets. She and her team will make sure you get the most out of your Austrian adventure – enjoying the best of what Austria’s newest UNESCO Biosphere Reserve has to offer and ensuring you experience pure, unadulterated nature during your stay. At St Martin Chalets, we will help you organise whatever it is you fancy doing, or we’ll just leave you in peace. Many of our guests just treat this as the perfect place to get away from it all and unwind. We have plenty of space indoors and out – you can swim in the pond, sunbathe, forage in the garden or simply while away the hours with a good book. The climate here in southern Salzburgerland is extremely mild – perfect for being outdoors – and the terrain is a picturesque combination of dramatic mountainsides and winding river valleys.
The SMC Activity Programme: When you arrive a weekly Activity Programme will be in your chalet, packed full of insider-info on what we think is worth doing, any discounts we’ve negotiated, the local cuisine, spas, art, festivals – whatever’s happening in the particular week you’re staying with us. It will also give you info about activities, such as guided mountain trail hikes and mountain bike tours, archery sessions and top activities you can enjoy, all for very low nominal charges. It’s our way of ensuring you get super value AND an Austrian experience you will never forget!
Castles, culture & ooodles of fun!
Lungau is crammed with year-round highlights for visitors. There are numerous castles, churches and museums to visit; there’s a tree-top adventure park on Katschberg; there are climbing walls, flying fox slides, summer camps and three outdoor pools, including an ‘adventure pool’ in Mauterndorf and outdoor water slides in Tamsweg.
We have championship golf courses (one you can walk to!), two airfields for pleasure flights, gliding, paragliding and hang gliding; there are herb gardens, tennis courts and plenty of stables for horse trekking; you can go rafting, hiking, canyoning or sightseeing; or there’s an outdoor adventure park where you can paddle, swim, climb or go ‘zorbing’! Trust us, you will definitely not be bored.
