The mountains around the ski resorts of St Martin Chalets in Obertauern, Fanningberg, Katschberg-Aineck and Grosseck-Speiereck are in no way reserved for downhill skiers and snowboarders; they are also an ideal area for gentle touring on skis and snow shoe trekking.
Snow shoe trekking
Winter hiking with snowshoes through the Lungau is both invigorating and peaceful – all at once. At 1000 metres above sea level the Lungau valley offers crystal-clear mountain air and wonderful scenery – all dusted with sparkling snow in mid-winter.
Have you tried it before? You’ll need normal winter sportswear, with lots of layers to peel off and you start to heat up and put back on when you slow down. Sunglasses are also a must: winter in the Lungau is sunny, but cold.
Guiding and instruction
You trudge together through the winter landscape from the middle of Salzburg’s Lungau, at one with nature, and exchanging the occasional pleasantry or sharing a view with your fellow hikers. We offer simple pleasures – nature, exercise, clean air and good fun.
Parts of the Lungau region provide perfect snow shoe and ski touring conditions for people of all experience levels. As experienced and fully trained guides, we will travel with you, helping you improve your technique and making sure you start feeling comfortable in the unfamiliar terrain.
